12/3/2011 – Moor End Common
On 12th March we bagged woodchips from felled trees and spread them along public footpaths on the Common where the going gets boggy. We also placed cut logs each side of the footpath to keep the woodchips from spreading. Part of the group cut back small willows growing into a sluggish stream and raked out fallen debris. By the end of the session the stream was happily trickling again. (Julia 14/3/2011)
Dr Bird receives MBE
Congratulations to Dr. William Bird for receiving an MBE in the New Year’s honours list for services to healthcare. The Green Gym was Dr. Bird’s idea and ours was the first group he set up with BTCV in 1998. There are now more than 100 Green Gyms in the UK, all based on the Sonning Common model. We are proud to be the pioneer Green Gym and proud that Dr. Bird has received recognition for this and many other activities in the healthcare field – see the article about his award at Henley Standard.
We have won an award! We have been presented with the environment award by the Chilterns Conservation board. This for the work we have done in Whithymead Nature Reserve. Thanks to all who have contributed.
